Main problem of SBS in project waterproofing application

Over the years, many roofs have been constructed with SBS waterproofing membranes. However, due to the quality problems of the membranes and the irregular construction, the leakage of membrane roofs has occurred frequently. How to better improve the construction quality of SBS modified bitumen waterproofing membrane roof has become a problem that China’s construction industry has to face.

Here below is a brief analysis of the problem of SBS membrane roof construction:
1. SBS membrane requires that the construction of the waterproof base surface is more stringent, and it must be constructed when the smoothness and smooth water content are less than 9%. This is difficult to meet in practice, and it is difficult to guarantee the quality of forced construction.
2. From the start of the waterproof project to completion, it takes 5-7 days to dry in sunny days (the time for the shady face is longer) if raining. In general, Party A and the general contractor are not allowed to stop working for such a long time. It is very common.
3.Some foundation pits have high humidity. Concrete is a porous water-absorbing (hygroscopic) material, so the water content is less than 9%, which is always impossible.
Standard regulation: when the water content is higher than 9%, the moisture barrier should be made on the construction surface. The project cost is about ¥30m2. Since the moisture content cannot be predicted in advance, there is no design and no cost, and it is usually not done. SBS membrane wet base surface is not well adhered, and the vertical wall is prone to leakage. In the case of severe backfilling, the SBS waterproof layer is completely detached and buried in the soil.
4. SBS membrane must be lapped, using the hot melt method (burning light open flame to stick). According to the construction method, when the SBS membrane is baked to the best condition with a blowtorch (no fire and no burning), use a hand with a cotton glove to slap the hot SBS compact to the base. On the surface. In particular, in some places, the bonding layer and the layer to be bonded have a height difference of 8mm (the front SBS longitudinal overlap is overlapped with the horizontal lap joint), so that SBS membrane is required to continuously thermoform two very small 900 angles in an instant. Very highly skilled. At present, most of the waterproof construction workers in China are mainly migrant workers, and taking the responsibility factor into consideration, it is difficult to ensure that there is no problem in a project with a seam of several kilometers or even several kilometers. Visible supervision is generally not seen, and when it is detached, it will form a leak.
5. When SBS membrane closes the root of the wall pipe, the continuous reliability of the waterproof armor layer is difficult to guarantee (it is difficult to pack).
6. SBS membrane is an empty paving line bond. A leaking point may cause a large area of wall leakage through string water, which makes the three waterproof layers lose the ability to defend multiple lines. And repair is difficult.
7. SBS membrane needs to be open fire during construction, and there are fire hazards. Many places have begun to promulgate documents, clearly specifying underground confined space, deep foundation pit (≥5 meters) and waterproofing projects near flammable materials.
it is prohibitive to use gasoline burner to hot melt construction bitumen waterproof materials.
8. It contains toxic volatile gases, long-term volatile benzene, xylene and other harmful carcinogens during construction or after construction.
